Principles of Green Transformation

To ensure this “green” wave brings the highest possible benefit to poor communities, there are some principles that should guide this work.

Community value: recognizes and maximizes the value of assets – monetary and non-monetary within poor and marginalized communities.

Informed choice/meaningful voice: ensures that communities have access to information on the range of options on finance, ownership, management and distribution of benefits relating to these new enterprises and value chains—and have a meaningful say in how they are developed and run.

Partnership: creates new partnerships between communities, business, government and investors that combine the distinct assets of different actors across sectors, based on equality, transparency, mutual respect and mutual gain.

Equality: works consciously to achieve economic, political, cultural and gender equality within and across communities.

Cultural cohesion: builds a culture and capacity for people to “live together” across economic, racial, social and geographic boundaries.

Next generation sustainability:
achieves deep levels of sustainability, beyond financial sustainability to human, ecological, and generational sustainability.
